On view in the library’s Quiet Gallery, “heARTwork: Resilience in the Midst of Struggle” presents artwork by Athens natives James Barnes and Broderick Flanigan. Barnes often uses colored pens and stencils to decorate canvases full of animals, buildings, words and patterns. Flanigan is an artist and activist who offers classes through Flanigan’s Portrait Studio in East Athens, and also leads children and teens through creating murals under his Helping Art Reach Public Spaces (HARPS) project. During the opening reception, the two artists will offer a slide talk describing how many of their pieces are informed by community work and activist initiatives. The exhibition will remain on view through Feb. 17.
