The 2013 documentary Design Is One: Lella & Massimo Vignelli chronicles the lives and accomplishments of the Italian couple well-known for their designs that influenced everything from packaging, housewares and furniture to the New York City Subway map and St. Peter’s Church in Manhattan. Primarily working within the modernist tradition, the Vignellis applied a minimal aesthetic to projects that ranged between the fields of interior, environmental, graphic and product design. The screening continues the museum’s Italians and Design Film Series, which has been held in conjunction with the exhibition “Modern Living: Giò Ponti and the 20th-Century Aesthetics of Design.”
