The much-anticipated Donna Chang's, in Five Points, is kinda, sorta open for business, and from what I hear, has been very busy despite a very quiet soft open. For now, it's dinner only, five nights a week (closed Tuesday and Wednesday; 5–10 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Sunday; 5–11 p.m. Friday and Saturday), but more nights and lunch will be added. Menu is up on the website linked.
Welp, it looks like La Dolce Vita isn't closing after all, at least not right now. Instead, it's switched from serving alcohol to BYOB, all of which is maybe good news for customers but also may be temporary.
According to Athens-Clarke County, "Alcohol Renewal applications were mailed out on September 15. The completed renewal applications are due in Financial Services by November 1." The same is true of the state-level liquor license, which is also required.

April is probably still tops when it comes to scheduling food events, as it combines beautiful weather with a lack of football competition, but October is pretty dang crazy too. Let's just put all the bad news in one post. La Dolce Vita, upstairs from what was its sister restaurant, Etienne Brasserie, is now also closed, announcing its shuttering on Facebook. It's been a bad year for that block of Broad downtown, between Jackson and Wall streets, which now houses only the bar Bourbon Street.
Shiraz, which retails wine and snacks in the Leathers Buiding, on Pulaski, hasn't updated its Facebook page yet but has sent out an email announcing a temporary closing, with no date when it might reopen.
And Hip Pops, in the Tracy Street warehouses, has announced that it will close its retail location for good (although the popsicle cart will still show up at events and can be hired for catering) in the next few weeks.

Holiday Inn Express has managed to combine the two things the youngs love most—selfies and brunch—into the Pancake Selfie Express, a van where you can get your face laser-printed onto a pancake.
Today Creature Comforts is release its latest beer, Transmission, a collaboration with Arizona Wildness Brewing Co. It’s a funky citrus saison (5.6% ABV) brewed with honey from Danielsville’s Booger Hill Bee Co., oranges and lemons from The Farm at Agritopia in Gilbert, AZ, and citrusy Mandarina Bavaria and Lemondrop hops, then bottle-conditioned for four months with Creature Comforts’ house yeast and bacteria cultures. Transmission will be available in 750 milliliter bombers at the brewery only.
